It's hard to believe a year has passed since our last blog about Christmas. But another busy year at Unusual Rigging has meant we've barely taken a breath before we're dusting off our Santa Hats and getting into the spirit of the festive season.
Of course for us, Christmas starts a little bit earlier than it does for the man on the street.
We start our work for panto season months in advance. This year we're rigging no less than 12 pantos OH YES WE ARE!, It takes a lot of prep - these days pantos aren't amateur productions OH NO THEY'RE NOT. They're big extravaganzas - as demanding in their rigging and staging requirements as the big West End Shows. With big names at the helm, the productions require a certain level of 'spectacular' and of course this is achieved with ambitious sets (and rigging). We have to visit each venue, work out what is and isn't possible in that theatre, decide if the theatre itself requires any modifications in order for us to fulfill our brief and of course, work with the production managers to make their visions a reality. It's hard work but we love it OH YES WE DO.
This year is the 4th year that we've hung the beautiful decorations on London's Regent Street -a job we never tire of. And perhaps the highlight of the Christmas season for us this year was giving Santa a bit of a helping hand to fly down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.
There is really nothing better than spreading a little Unusual magic at Christmas time and we look forward to sharing another year of spectacular theatre, events, museums and engineering projects with you in 2020.
Until then, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
